Do It Yourself NY Facial Treatment

Facials in a Hurricane?

We are all trapped indoors today because of Hurricane Sandy. After a stressful night of preparation for the coming storm and worrying about whether or not you have to evacuate from your home, why don’t we treat ourselves to a D.I.Y. Facial! The weather prevents us all from going out and receiving a NYC facial treatment but it does not mean that we can’t do one at home ourselves with our family, friend or even roommates!

Follow these quick easy steps for a quick 30 minute home facial and your face will be glowing even if it is a little stormy and miserable outside:

1. Wash your face

You would want to first wash your face, neck and ears with your favorite facial cleanser to remove all the dirt, makeup residue and all the nasty build up that collects on your face that you might not know of.

Do not forget to use makeup remover prior to washing your face, it helps to remove most of the makeup on your face to supplement your facial cleanser.

2. Exfoliate

Use a gentle exfoliating facial scrub, and apply to your face with a gentle circular motion using your fingers. Spend some more time on the areas on your face that tend to be greasier. This helps you remove dead skin from your face allowing your face to properly breathe.

If you do not have an exfoliating facial scrub you can make one from the everyday items in your pantry by combining honey, sugar and olive oil for a moisturizing and soothing facial scrub.

3. Steam

Open up all the pores on your face by using steam. There are many ways to steam your face, the easiest is to soak your washcloth in hot water and putting it over your face 2-3 times. This lets the steam seep into your pores for about five minutes. Be careful not to burn yourself!

4. Mask

Grab a clay-based mask for oily skin. If you have dry skin you will want to use a hydrating gel or cream mask. Apply the mask to your face avoiding the eye area and leave on for 10-20 minutes depending on the instructions on the product and rinse off.

5. Moisturize

Moisturizing is essential because it helps keeps your face from over drying. When your face is dry after cleansing, it will produce more oil; thus making your face oily. Use a simple moisturizer because remember after cleansing, exfoliating, steaming and using a mask, all the dead skin, dirt and grime is removed from the surface of your face leaving new skin which is sensitive.
